Clint Eastwood: End of a career

août 5, 2007

Clint Eastwood seems to have quietly retired from acting, according to an Entertainment Weekly interview with Paul Haggis, the director and screenwriter of the Oscar-winning « Crash ».

In the interview, Haggis says he approached Eastwood for the lead in « In the Valley of Elah », a role which subsequently went to Tommy Lee Jones. Eastwood turned Haggis down, stating « I was in retirement, I came out of it to do « Million Dollar Baby ». I don’t think I can go out better, do you? »

This marks a retirement trend for actors of his generation, with the recent news that Paul Newman and Sean Connery have also given up their day jobs.

But Eastwood fans need not despair: he will continue to direct. After « Million Dollar Baby », he of course went on to make two movies about the Battle of Iwo Jima, and has a project called « The Changeling » in the works starring Angelina Jolie.

  1. I think after a career as long and as great as his–he owes us nothing more. He did it fantastic the first time around and if chooses to rest and take it easy out of the cameras way–god bless him.
    Thanks Clint for the ride.
